Across the Rockies in 28 Days

Day 16:
Penticton to Osoyoos (by car).
Thursday, September 4, 2014.
Sunny. 23C.

Finally a rest day or at least a day off of the bikes. We rented a car in Penticton this morning and drove up the 97 to Summerland to check out the KVR there. There is a working railway there, but no trains running today.

After that we drove south towards Osoyoos, passing through Okanagan Falls and Oliver. There is a paved trail running from the north end of Osoyoos Lake up to Oliver and we are planning to ride that tomorrow. We stopped at the access point to check it out and we had a picnic in the car.

The sun was scorching even though the temperature was not that high. The only shade to be had was inside our Malibu. The bridge over the canal there has an osprey nest on it…

…and mother osprey was waiting for her lunch too.

After lunch we previewed our route for tomorrow and stopped in at the visitors center in Oliver. We chatted with Trude for awhile about what to see and do in the area. Later, we made our way back to Osoyoos and checked in at the Boundary Motel.

A quick stroll through town enabled us to get all we needed for our supper and we were glad to be back in our room out of the sun. It has since cooled off in the evening and we are looking forward to getting an early start in the morning.
